Sermon on the Mount

The book behind Koinonia Farm.

Before there was Koinonia. Before the boycotts, bullets, and bombs. Before the headlines.

There was a young farmer and Baptist preacher named Clarence Jordan wrestling with one question:

What if Jesus actually meant what he said?

In Sermon on the Mount, Clarence Jordan takes Jesus' most famous teaching seriously—perhaps more seriously than is comfortable. Written in 1951, this short, powerful book lays out many of the convictions that shaped and continue to shape Koinonia Farm. It remains one of the clearest introductions to the ideas that inspired Koinonia's witness and way of life.

More than seventy years later, its questions remain as unsettling—and as relevant—as ever. More than perhaps 2,000 years after Jesus spoke these words, people are still trying to live them.
