Koinonia Farm began in 1942 as an experiment: people living together on the land, taking the Sermon on the Mount seriously, and doing their best to love their neighbors—all their neighbors—without exception.

In the 1950s, Koinonia faced intense opposition because of its commitment to racial equality and shared economic life. A violent boycott cut the community off from local markets. With few options left, we began selling by mail what we made in our own kitchens.

What started as a means of survival became a lifeline.
