Some people write about faith. Clarence Jordan tried to live it.

For more than four decades, Clarence Jordan asked one question: What would happen if people actually lived the teachings of Jesus?

His search for an answer led him to challenge racial segregation, question accepted assumptions, and help build a community where faith was meant to be practiced, not merely discussed.

Part of the Modern Spiritual Masters Series, this volume gathers selections from Jordan's sermons, writings, and Cotton Patch Gospel translations, chosen by editor Joyce Hollyday. Together, they introduce readers to a voice that is thoughtful, courageous, deeply rooted in Scripture, and as challenging today as when it was first heard.

These pages offer an invitation to wrestle with the Gospel and what it might mean to live it.
