( 2 Reviews )

Hospitality Beyond Borders is Koinonia Farm’s ministry to immigrants and detainees at nearby Stewart Detention Center. If the men are deported, they are required to wear their prison jumpsuits on the plane. However, if provided, they are allowed to carry a backpack with one change of clothes. Koinonia works to contribute these items.

With a tax deductible donation of $75, we can provide one backpack filled with a shirt, pair of pants, underwear, socks, and shoes.

You can make a donation in memory or in honor of a loved one. You can also request a certificate be sent to the family or friend of those being remembered or honored.

Hospitality Backpacks

We have visited Koinonia several times and are impressed with how well they practice hospitality. Hospitality backpacks are just one way that they practice this. We have sponsored backpacks in the past and chose to continue it this year. I don't know of many organizations who offer hospitality in such a kind, compassionate, and thoughtful way as Koinonia. They are being the hands and feet of Jesus when they see a need, caring for individuals who might be forgotten and overlooked. We are proud to partner with them in a small way with these bag packs that provide the individuals at Stewart Detention Center some basic needs and some dignity before being deported.

Hospitality Backpacks

For holidays and birthdays, I've given these Hospitality Backpacks rather than traditional gifts. People come to the U.S. fleeing persecution, violence, and poverty, hoping for a better life. The conditions at Stewart Detention are rough: https://www.detentionwatchnetwork.org/sites/default/files/reports/DWN%20Expose%20and%20Close%20Stewart.pdf A backpack filled with a set of new, clean "civilian" clothes gives some dignity and a sense of humanity when people are deported from detention... the person receiving the backpack knows that someone cares about them. I trust Koinonia as a non-profit organization that has done excellent, thoughtful work ... the backpack program is just one of many, many great, focused programs that change people's lives.
